Last month I released the home recording of "Teach Me Your Way" from Psalm 86:11. That, my friends, is a dangerous but lovely prayer. November is a month where the Lord worked deeply on my character. The Lord showed me how some of my core values could be manipulated by situations to where I would think dangerously wrong thoughts and could fall into temptations that would not be good for me or the people I love (and thought those values protected). It was also a hard month, with a tragic death in our family. On top of all, our church plant's continuation is in question and my job with IBM is undergoing huge changes. Thankfully, God's hand is covering us.
My current session at Rockbridge is a Hermeneutics class - How to study the Bible and draw from the Word of God. Every scripture in our exercises spoke deeply to me. Much of our focus was on the Epistle of James and living authentic Christianity - faith that moves you to deeds. The deeds are evidence of faith and trust in God. Not only did the Scriptures speak deeply to me but even the teaching about literary forms came to play in this song. The first two lines are patterned with the Lord at each end and trust in the middle. There is also lots of symbolism. It is a song of radical trust in God. Trust and faith in the Lord moves us to live authentically for Christ. Matthew 14:22-33 sets the picture for the vision behind the song. Isaiah 30:15, as well.
So what fire or storm are you passing through. My brothers and sisters, trust alone in the Lord. From Him alone comes deliverance and peace.
Lord, I trust in You
All my trust in You, Lord
When the storms break out on me
My rest in found in You
O you waves that pitch and rage.
O you wind who tears my sail away.
I look through you, to my Jesus, who bids me come,
to Him and walk,
Upon the waters,
Through the storms,
Walk upon the waters.
