A Legacy of Christmas Light

Posted on December 11, 2009 with 0 comments
This evening, my son and I watched a TV program that had the senior citizens of Nashville royalty exchanging stories and songs. There was a younger artist in the gathering who was overwhelmed by the older artists and though he was not of their generation, he had a deep respect, even to the point of tears, for the elder artists and their legacy to him.

As I write, I am listening to my son play beautiful music from the couch beside me and I can hear a part of my legacy to him. We pass a bit of who we are, the harvest of our lives, onto our sons and daughters. They will pass on our legacy to their sons and daughters, and so it goes on and on.

Walking through the time of Advent, where we long for the baby Messiah, Jesus Christ, to come anew to us, I can see how God has passed on a legacy to us. A legacy born of receiving light from Him, as He is born anew in us each Christmas, and then becoming light that shines into the darkness. As we move towards Christ-likeness, we reveal the legacy we've received from God as light-bearers into His Creation. This is the legacy we've received and the holy legacy we pass on to our sons and daughters.

Jesus, please come to us this day. Shine your light into us and set us ablaze for you. Send us, Lord, that we may go be light-into-the world for You, returning glory and worship to You.
