This weekend is renewed banjo weekend! My friend, Glenn, helped me restore a banjo for my son-in-law, Scott. Glenn took an old Silvertone banjo apart and showed me how to polish up all the metal parts and clean everything up. Today we put it all back together. Glenn set the neck so it would be playable and then we put all the shined up parts back together. It has new strings, bridge and actually sounds and plays very, very nice! Thanks, Glenn, for your expertise! Scott was amazed how nice it looks. Scott will have a nice banjo with a lot of character! I like that their house will also be filled with music. That is a very good thing!

My ISP added a new feature to push my music related posts to Facebook. Very cool. Here goes...
The tech world is quite abuzz today with the pending announcement of the new iNameYetUnknown from Apple. I paged through various artist's concept drawings of what it might look like. Whatever our anticipation is to see what it looks like and to maybe get one in hand someday, it is bound to not to live up to everyone's imagination. There will be technical limitations and disappointments as to what features it actually has. Eventually, our imaginations will drive another development cycle and this new device will become obsolete.
There is something.... or should I say Someone, with a name that is known and another name that is not known yet. Our imaginations can't even begin to conceive of his majesty and awesomeness. We simply cannot hold it all in our minds. Although He is from before ancient time (even before time existed), He will be forever and never, ever become obsolete. His splendor will be displayed to us infinitely new throughout all eternity.
This One will overrun [...]

Well, here we are post-Christmas and post-New Year. It is a day of new beginning!
Last week or so, I started on a new song and while it is not settled yet, my understanding is getting stretched a bit by the concept. Central to the song is that Jesus' work reigns over anything and everything. Nothing about us can't be reconciled to God by Jesus' work. His work of the cross and His resurrection subjugate sin and death. Jesus is supreme over all - Col 1:15-23. My foundation in healing prayer is that Jesus is supreme over sickness and infirmity. They are subjugated to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Sickness and infirmity are also then subjugated to Christ in us.
This song also hints at the Paschal Mystery. As we remember and ponder the Passion of Christ, we take in the healing and resurrection. We take it into our own bodies. The power of Christ's work in us, revealing the glory of God. From the moment we receive the Gospel, we are given new life - one that starts when we receive [...]

This evening, my son and I watched a TV program that had the senior citizens of Nashville royalty exchanging stories and songs. There was a younger artist in the gathering who was overwhelmed by the older artists and though he was not of their generation, he had a deep respect, even to the point of tears, for the elder artists and their legacy to him.
As I write, I am listening to my son play beautiful music from the couch beside me and I can hear a part of my legacy to him. We pass a bit of who we are, the harvest of our lives, onto our sons and daughters. They will pass on our legacy to their sons and daughters, and so it goes on and on.
Walking through the time of Advent, where we long for the baby Messiah, Jesus Christ, to come anew to us, I can see how God has passed on a legacy to us. A legacy born of receiving light from Him, as He is born anew in us each Christmas, and then becoming light that shines into the darkness. As we move towards Christ-likeness, we reveal the legacy [...]
